Karthik Ramakrishnan is a VP in the Data Cloud organization responsible for Business Intelligence, Catalog and Dataplex. He is a  AI/ML builder with a career defined by taking frontier technologies from zero-to-one and scaling them for global impact. He has been at the forefront of every major shift in intelligent systems, from the early internet to the current Generative AI revolution.
Prior to joining Google, Karthik led the Science and Engineering organization responsible for the development of the Amazon Nova foundation model family. His work spanned the full evolution of AI at Amazon, from conversational systems to multi-modal AGI. Karthik’s journey at Amazon began in 2012 as an early engineer for Alexa. He led the creation of the core Alexa software stack, architecting the highly distributed, low-latency cloud and AI/ML services—specifically speech recognition and language understanding—that eventually scaled to over 500 million devices worldwide.
Prior to Amazon, Karthik honed his expertise in speech and technology at Tellme Networks (acquired by Microsoft in 2007), where he served as a Senior Engineer building enterprise grade speech and language platforms. He began his career at Netscape in 2000, following his undergraduate and graduate studies in Computer Science with a specialized focus on AI/ML.
