Tomas leads the BigQuery engineering team as part of Google Cloud. Tomas is responsible for BigQuery storage, data lakes, streaming, query engine, advanced analytics, AI services and user experiences. Before joining Google in early 2022, Tomas has held multiple roles in the cloud data space at Microsoft Azure team. Tomas has been one of the founders of Azure SQL DB team and most recently been the VP of Engineering for Azure Big Data team at Microsoft.  Tomas holds 18 patents in the databases space and has co-authored multiple publications in major database  conferences such as VLDB and ICDE. Tomas is originally from Vilnius, Lithuania and holds a BsC degree in Computer Science from Vilnius University.
