Ahmed Ayad is the Director of Engineering for the BigQuery Core Analytics team at Google. He currently leads the engineering strategy for the platform's core query engine, workload management, and large-scale data migrations.
Previously at Google, Ahmed led the BigQuery Core Storage and Workload Management teams, where he was responsible for the durability, availability, and performance of the storage layer that powers the serverless data warehouse.
Prior to joining Google, Ahmed spent seven years as a Software Development Engineer at Microsoft. During his tenure, he worked on core database technologies SQL Server.
Ahmed holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his research focused on continuous query processing and data streaming. He also holds two Master’s degrees and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Alexandria University in Egypt.
